Playing Vampire With Regan

A hobby that is growing in popularity after a long hiatus is tabletop role playing games, also known as RPGs.

The most common RPG is dungeons and dragons. However, this is not the only tabletop role playing game. Vampire is a game in which all players are vampires and an individual called the story teller runs the game.

Vampire is a dice based game. It uses the same dice popularized by dungeons and dragons.

However, rather than mostly relying on a 20 sided die Vampire relies on three 10 sided dice.

This time my friend Regan was the storyteller which means he describes the setting our characters find themselves in. I the player then make decisions about what my character does based on what Regan says. I roll the three 10 sided dice to determine if what my character tries to do succeeds or not.

In that particular game there was a hospital with werewolf blood in it, and my vampire was tasked with stealing the blood from the hospital. I succeeded, and now in the future if we play again we will use the same character to see what happens after I stole the blood.

Regan Carpenter has been playing in and running games of D&D, Vampire and similar RPG’s for a number of years. It is a wonderful hobby to participate in with friends and although he was the storyteller this time, he prefers to play.

Henna Tattoos at Universal

Over the Mardi-Gras break I went with my girlfriend to Florida’s Universal Studios. As we explored The Lost Continent section of the Islands of Adventure park we found a Henna artist named Angelina. So, I decided to talk to her about her hobby of Henna.

Henna is a form of tattooing originally from the Middle and Near East, but chiefly recognized as a Hindu Indian practice. Henna is a dye made from the henna tree found in those regions. When applied to the skin, nails, or hair henna leaves a temporary marking on the applied location. It is often used on people who don’t want a permanent tattoo or by young women during holidays in the eastern parts of the world.

Angelina says that she has been painting since she was a little girl. Always an artist she was naturally intrigued when she went to her Indian friends wedding and experienced henna for the first time. Ever since that first experience she has been making her own henna dye and tattooing at whatever events she gets the chance to.

While Angelina is currently working at Universal Studios, she hopes to eventually expand into her own business. Her business would not only focus on henna tattoing however as she also practices facepainting, braiding hair, and other forms of body art.

Angelina’s closing statement was that Henna feels very spiritual to her because she touches so many people, and leaves her art with them.

Photography with Khaila

Saturday I woke up with an exciting day ahead of me. A day of photography with my friend Khaila. We drove to the lake in Morgan City to take pictures of the water and pelicans that tend to flock there. While there Khaila taught me about how to properly take photos and eventually I settled on my favorite photograph, featured above.

Khaila Coleman is studying to be a history teacher at Fletcher. She frequently ventures out to take photos of Louisiana’s nature when not to busy with her schoolwork.
